I got a request for a bioshock 2 review from a friend of mine, and I’m going to try to review as many requests as possible. So…
Bioshock 2:
Graphics - 7/10: Bioshock 2’s graphics were on par with the rest of games that come out these days, but were not extraordinary. The game still looks amazing because of how much of those graphics they were able to put into the game, from posters, to billboards, to inanimate objects. The only strong point that Bioshock 2 presents is it’s water, which looks amazing in just about every way possible.
Gameplay - 8/10: The gameplay was mostly excellent, it felt very fluent and analogue, and gave you a sense of control that most games (I’m looking at YOU Gears of War) don’t bother with these days. The movements feel as if they are your own throughout the game. I would give the game a 10 if it weren’t for it’s lack of 360 controller support on the pc, as well as a couple of points in the game where it takes some control of you but not fully, which feels about as fun as one of those interactive Lysol advertisements.
Storyline - 6/10: The storyline is okay for a company that wants to make some money by making a new game, but it didn’t live up to expectations. The original bioshock storyline was constantly throwing new news at you, keeping you guessing. At the end of Bioshock 1, they through in 2 huge twists that just about made my head explode! Bioshock 2 had no such thing, no twist, it also lacked the scare factor throughout the game. I don’t know what it was about bioshock 2, but the entire time playing the first game I was damn near shaking the game was so scary and creepy. And although you can tell that they attempted this in bioshock 2, what with the blurring when big sisters scream in your face, the game just wasn’t as real as the first, not even close.
All in all I’d give the game a 7/10. It was decent, and definitely worth a play through, but it didn’t live up to expectations, I don’t think a third game is a good idea at all, but who knows? Maybe it will be as good as the first one, and redeem 2K’s name as far as the scare factor goes.
